Five things to pack for Mount Rainier

A windproof shell, even in July. Paradise can be 20 degrees colder than Seattle and the wind finds every gap.

Two litres of water, a real lunch and something salty for the way down. We carry a first-aid kit and a stove, but we do not carry your sandwiches.

Boots with grip you have already worn. Blisters have ended more of our hikes than weather ever has.
